The Curse of PCA

Zoey's Ribs is the sixteenth episode in Season 3 and the 42nd overall episode in the Nickelodeon TV series, Zoey 101. The episode aired on September 29, 2007.

Plot

After Zoey's great uncle Morris passes away, he sends her a thousand pounds of ribs. She keeps her ribs in a cafeteria fridge, and in order to make room, she, Chase, Michael, and Logan plan a rib cook-off. With Malcolm Reese's rib rub and Michael's grandma's homemade barbecue sauce, the 4 of them make a team, but after a fierce feud between Michael and Logan ensues, they form two separate teams of Zoey with Michael, and Chase with Logan. Zoey and Chase offer to have Coco judge the rib cook-off, until Dean Rivers meets celebrity chef Pierre LeMange at the gas station and he offers to be the judge. Coco is not happy when Zoey tells her she won't be the judge, until she gets distracted by meeting Pierre LeMange. They ask Coco if she's okay with Pierre judging the rib cook-off and offer her to be the assistant judge, which she happily agrees to. In order to win the rib cook-off, Logan gives Mr. LeMange $300 and Michael gives him a massage. During the rib cook-off, Coco and Pierre taste and judge the ribs, giving Chase and Logan the leading score of 9.6. When they are about to score Zoey and Michael's ribs, the police show up and arrest Mr. LeMange, who turns out to be an imposter who uses his resemblance to get special treatment. Michael and Logan get into another fight, and Zoey tells them they are sick of them fighting and tell them to stop. After the two make up, the rib cook-off resumes and everyone starts dancing. Unfortunately, when a girl asks Michael and Logan if either of them want to dance, they both say yes and get into another fight as the episode ends.

Meanwhile, Quinn accidentally blows Mark's eyebrows off in an experiment gone awry, and she creates a follicular stimulant that accelerates hair growth. Unfortunately, it works too well; a glob of hair grows out of her armpits, and Mark's eyebrows become very bushy. After an attempt to shave off the extra hair, Quinn's armpit tuft and Mark's eyebrows grow back very quickly. Quinn calls a science professor to analyze her follicular stimulant, and he tells her the hair accelerator effect should wear off within 3 to 4 weeks. Quinn sees the rib cook-off out the window and tells Mark they should not care what other people think, and they join the rib cook-off. They join in on the dancing while everyone else stares at them.

Trivia

  • Paul Butcher (Dustin Brooks) did not appear in this episode.
  • Mark losing his eyebrows is a reference to the Victorious episode “Crazy Ponnie” when Jade would lose her eyebrows too.
  • This is the second time a main character's family member dies. The first was Chase's Grandma, who died on both hers and Chase's birthday in the episode named after her.
  • Lola questions why Quinn dates Mark. She also does it in the Season 4 episode, "Trading Places".
  • The song playing at the end, during the rib cook-off, "Permanent Midnight" by Saucy Monky, was also played in the opening of the Season 1 episode, "Jet X".
  • Mark usually has a somewhat dull and quiet tone of voice. However, he yells a lot in this episode.
  • The concept of using an object in a sock as a weapon was later seen on iCarly with Sam Puckett's butter sock.
  • Moral: Competitions are never fun if competitors act aggressive towards each other.
