Surprise is the first episode of Season 3 and the 27th overall episode of the Nickelodeon TV series Zoey 101. The episode originally aired on September 24, 2006.

Plot

It's a new year at PCA which leads to several surprises, including the news that Nicole will not be returning to PCA due to being diagnosed with "Obsessive Male Gender Disorder" (OMGD), and being sent to an all-girls school.

Zoey and Lola notice Quinn in the lounge arguing with Coco, saying she has been assigned a non-existent room. Coco checks the clipboard and remembers she ordered a bra online while doing room assignments and wrote her bra size "36D" as Quinn's room number by mistake. With Nicole's departure leaving an opening in room 101, Coco has Quinn move in with Zoey and Lola, much to their dismay.

After everyone settles into their new rooms, Chase tells Zoey he wants to talk with her privately. Lola and Quinn tell Zoey that Chase wants to tell her that he is in love with her, but she doesn't believe them. To prove it, she goes to Chase's room to speak to him, but walks in on him kissing his new girlfriend, Rebecca.

Meanwhile, Chase, Michael and Logan race to their new room to get the single bed. When Michael and Logan arrived at the same time, they must figure out a way to see who gets the single bed. They attempt to eat hot peppers, but it results in a tie. They try boxing, but Dustin stops them and has them flip a coin. Michael calls tails, which is what the coin lands on, giving Michael the single bed. Both still wearing their boxing gloves, Logan punches Michael to the ground and says, "Sweet Dreams."

Trivia

• This is the first episode not to feature Nicole Bristow, following Alexa Nikolas's departure from the series after Season 2.
  • While it is mentioned that Nicole will return to PCA once she is cured of her OMGD, she never appears in the series again.
  • As of this episode, both of Zoey's original roommates have been written out of the series.
• It is revealed that Chase, Michael and Logan's dorm this season is in Maxwell Hall, while Zoey, Lola and Quinn’s dorm is in Fulton Hall.
• This episode marks Chase's first on-screen kiss in the series.
• The following episode, Chase's Girlfriend, takes place immediately after the events of this episode.
• It is revealed that Lola has a little sister.

Goofs

• When Quinn is trying to capture the bees, the closet behind her is open. When Zoey is running towards the closet, it is closed, and she has to open it to get in.
• It would be nearly impossible to catch a bee with a net, as it could easily fly through the gaps or escape after being caught.
• Logan says that he always got the single bed, but in The Play, he is seen sleeping on the top bunk.
