School Dance is the twelfth episode of Season 1 of the Nickelodeon TV series Zoey 101. It originally aired on April 17, 2005.
Plot
The school dance committee this year is using a personality quiz to partner people up with the same interests. Two people from the committee come to Zoey's class to talk about it and how it benefits them. So that he can get to dance with Zoey, Chase tricks her into giving him her answers to the quiz. However, his plan backfires when another guy called Glen also gets matched up with Zoey. They both need to agree about who will dance with Zoey or neither of them will.
After watching them from a distance, Chase decides to let Zoey and Glen have their moment. Zoey leaves to go talk to Nicole, while Glen heads over to the punch bowl to talk to a friend. After admitting that he doesn’t know what to talk about with Zoey, his friend reveals that he shouldn’t have stolen the answers to Zoey’s personality test. Chase overhears this and confronts him. Zoey stands behind Chase, which startles him. Zoey expresses her disappointment to both boys and leaves while very upset. Chase, disappointed with himself, asks why he talks out loud.
Meanwhile, Nicole gets matched with a boy in her school, Nicholas, for the school dance. He is shown to be very similar to her peppy personality. At the dance, she slowly becomes uncomfortable and heads to get some punch as Dana approaches her. The two compare Nicholas to Nicole, in which Dana pretends to deny their similarity. Nicole, then, proceeds to have a peppy moment of her own with her beverage, proving this theory.
Michael gets paired with Olivary Biallo, a boy who attends the school. He asks the Lord what he has done and runs away, Ollie following him. After confronting the people who control the personality tests, with little to no effort, they find each other at the dance. Ollie, short for Olivary, asks Michael if he’s feeling better. The two then break out into a wild dance routine in which Michael tries to keep up but he ends up falling. Ollie jumps into Michael’s arms. Later on, Ollie reveals that he must go pray to the moon in which Michael gleefully agrees. Before he leaves, he introduces Michael to his sister, Farfalla, who is attractive and Michael’s attitude changes. Michael suggests Ollie to proceed to go pray to the moon, and starts joyfully dancing with Ollie’s sister.
Zoey and Nicole sit together, annoyed and disturbed with their dates. They both agree on picking their own dates for the dance next year. They acknowledge their friends, mostly Michael, having a good time.
Dana and Logan get matched with one another, much to their disapproval in one another. The two end up somehow dancing together. Dana shows no effort and is extremely annoyed. Logan tried to impress her with his break dancing, only to find that Dana has left unamused. As the dance continues, Logan asks if she’s having a good time yet, in which she sarcastically thinks about it before saying no. Logan suggests that they make out to help her cheer up. Dana asks if he really wants to make out with her. Logan replies that he just wants to do a girl a favor. Dana agrees and tells him to close his eyes. They seem to almost kiss until Dana violently stomps on his foot before walking away. Logan groans in pain and convinces himself that Dana so wants him.
Later on, Zoey meets Chase at a lake while he is throwing rocks. Chase apologizes for his wrongdoings and Zoey accepts. She then asks why it was important for him to go through all of the trouble just to go with her to a school dance. Chase nervously reveals that he wanted to protect her from going to the dance with a jerk, which backfires. Zoey tells Chase that it was a sweet gesture. Zoey then demonstrates how to properly throw rocks into a lake and the two take turns doing so.
Trivia
- Erin Sanders (Quinn Pensky) and Paul Butcher (Dustin Brooks) do not appear in this episode.
- In production and streaming order, this is the eleventh episode of Season 1.
- This episode features appearances from Teo Olivares and Christian Serratos from Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, another live-action comedy series on Nickelodeon.
- This is the third episode to focus on Chase’s feelings for Zoey.
- The cast has made it pretty clear that PCA is 90% guys and 10% girls. If this is true, then most of the guys wouldn't even get paired up with girls. The number of guys who would get to go to the dance is the same as the number of girls that are in the school.
- Which is why Michael ended up being paired with Ollie.
- Right before they show the girls getting ready for the dance, they show the outside of the room. It's not the room because one room has red walls and the other has gold.
- Logan and Dana were originally intended to become a couple, which is hinted at in this episode. The storyline was dropped after Kristin Herrera left the series.
- The song Michael and Ollie dance to is "Boyz" by Saucy Monky, which also appears in other episodes of Zoey 101 as well as in other series such as Drake & Josh and iCarly.
- In this episode, Nicole's last name, Bristow, is revealed for the first time, although it is not verbally stated until People Auction.
- Typing in pcatest.com takes you to: http://ww1.pcatest.com/.
- One of the dancing guys names on the list is Harry Matheu, the production designer for this show.
- Nicole’s match’s name can be viewed in two ways. The name Nicholas is similar to Nicole. Also, the actress who portrays Nicole has the same last name, but rather spelt as Alexa Nikolas. However, this may have been unintentional.
- This was the only episode in the series to have the Opening Theme Song play at the end of the episode before end credits, as well as during end credits, rather than the ending theme version with a different verse, or even an instrumental version.

Goofs
- It is unknown how Glen was able to "steal" Zoey's personality test and "put it back" if it was online. However, Zoey may have printed it out.
- When Ollie leaves to go pray to the moon, him and Michael say “scucha” to one another. This was probably meant to be translated into “Bye”, when in reality, “escucha” means “Listen” in Spanish.
- Zoey and Nicole agree to pick their own dates for the school dance next year. There wasn’t another episode dedicated to a school dance in Season 2 nor was there a school dance until the series finale Chasing Zoey, in which Nicole left PCA long before.
