People Auction is the twelfth episode in Season 2 and the 25th overall episode in the Nickelodeon TV series, Zoey 101. Going by streaming and/or production order, this is the 9th episode of Season 2. The episode first aired on April 9, 2006.
Plot
After a fire burns down Sushi Rox, Zoey and the gang hold a people auction to raise money in order to rebuild it. Chase and Michael get auctioned to the sushi-crazy Coach Keller who holds Chase responsible for Sushi Rox burning down. Zoey, Lola, and Nicole become Logan's personal cheerleaders, and they are told to "cheer his awesomeness," as in cheer for everything he does for a week. His plan, however, backfires when the girls decide to cheer for everything he does (waking up, getting back in the shower, and getting rejected by a girl he asks out on a date), and he pays them their money just to have them leave him alone. With $10,000 successfully gained to rebuild Sushi Rox, everyone holds a welcome back party for Kazu and Sushi Rox reopens.
Trivia
- Paul Butcher (Dustin Brooks) did not appear in this episode.
- This is the last episode where Anthony Del Broccolo is a writer on the show.
- While Chase and Michael are making sushi for Coach Keller, he is reading an "Itchy Rich" comic (parody of Richie Rich). The same comic Coach Phelps reads in Disc Golf.
- It is discovered that Kazu's hometown is in Birmingham, Alabama.
- This is Kazu's only appearance in Season 2.
- Kazu's license plate is SUSHI ROX.
- Quinn has a small role in this episode.
- This is the first, and only, episode where Nicole's last name is verbally mentioned out loud.
- Nicole is seen eating sushi. But in Little Beach Party, she says she usually doesn't like fish.
- This episode is referenced in the Season 3 episode Hot Dean, where Kazu reminds Chase to not burn down his restaurant again.
- The cheerleader outfits Zoey, Nicole, and Lola wear would later be used again in the Victorious episode "Wi-Fi in the Sky" though the "L" would change to a "C" and the dark blue would change to purple.
- Quinn and Logan are the only main characters who don't auction themselves off.
- Logan bids at the auction and Quinn was seen sitting in the audience.
- The song that plays at the end is "Summer Sunshine," an English cover of an original soundtrack with the same name of South Korean series Mackerel Run, which would later be featured in Barbie In A Mermaid Tale.
- For this episode. Zoey, Lola, and Nicole had to be Logan's personal cheerleaders. Jamie Lynn Spears did cheerleading in real life. She was a member of her school's cheerleading squad during her time on Zoey 101. Victoria Justice and Alexa Nikolas, however did not have any experience with cheerleading.
- This is the penultimate episode where Lola wears pigtails. The last episode where Lola wears pigtails would be in the second part of Goodbye Zoey.
- This episode reveals Jamie Lynn Spears has a pierced belly button.
- During the end credits, the normal credit's theme plays, which hasn't been heard since Robot Wars because the three episodes that aired between these two used the piano version (beginning notes of the theme song).
- This is also the final episode this season to use the regular version.
- The episode is set in January 2006, as revealed on the check that Logan hands Zoey, Nicole and Lola.
Goofs
- Zoey was the one who ordered the tempura roll, which then caused the fire, but Coach Keller did not get mad at her.
- Although Coach Keller is known to be angrier toward men than women, aside from one angry outburst towards Zoey.
- Logan blames Chase and Zoey for the fire, but it's really Kazu's fault. He could've turned off the stove or grill.
- Logan was just being a jerk (as usual) and blamed them out of spite, despite his reasoning.
- Kazy's vanity plate says SUSHI ROX, which has 8 characters, but the character limit is 7 in California.
- Kazu should’ve had insurance on his restaurant. However, since Kazu claimed he didn't have much insurance, whatever the insurance would cover to repair Sushi Rox was likely not enough.
- When Zoey, Lola and Nicole perform the rejected dance and song in front of Logan, Nicole makes a mistake when they first spell the word rejected by briefly pointing the pom pom upward when she should’ve pointed the pom pom to the left instead.
- Ironically, there were no smoke detectors in the restaurant. That would’ve automatically set off the fire alarm without Zoey having to pull it.
- There should have been a fire sprinkler in the restaurant that would have put out the flames.
- When the girls walk on the stage, Lola's hair is in front of her shoulders. When the camera cuts to the girls, her hair is behind her shoulders.
- The fire chief who took the $5 bill assuming it was a tip, should be fired or suspended from his job for taking it away from Kazu. He basically stole it.
