Goodbye Zoey

Logan Gets Cut Off is the twenty-second episode in Season 3 and the 49th overall episode in the Nickelodeon TV series, Zoey 101. The episode aired on December 9, 2007.

Plot

Logan is in hot water when his dad, Malcolm Reese discovers he used his credit card, which was only to be used for textbooks, food, and some occasional entertainment with friends, to purchase a $327,000.00 car (for which Logan doesn't even have a license to drive, and was planning to use for the sole purpose of making out with girls in) without his permission. Malcolm immediately steps in and takes control: he forcefully returns the car, takes away all of Logan's luxuries and expensive possessions, closes his bank account, and cuts his credit card in half. Without all his financial resources, Logan is completely helpless to do anything, even proving inept at doing his own hair and laundry. Eventually, Logan becomes so desperate for cash, he allows students to throw tomatoes at him for a dollar each. Zoey, Lola, and Chase reluctantly take pity on Logan, and they attempt to teach him how to fend for himself without money or luxuries. When Logan doesn't seem to be learning, Zoey does Logan's laundry, Lola helps him with his hair, Chase types out his history report. This goes on for some time.

Later on, the three find out that Logan's father had given him a second chance, and had returned his money and luxuries back, and had given him a new credit card. As Logan had neglected to mention this to anybody for over a week, they realize he had deliberately been taking advantage of them, and they figure out a way to get revenge. They trick Logan into using his credit card to purchase a seemingly valuable set of coins, for $100,000.00 from Firewire. Again, Malcolm confronts Logan about the unauthorized six-figure transaction, but this time, Logan insists that purchase was worth far more than what he paid. The Reese family butler, Chauncy, inspects the coins and determines they are counterfeit, and aren't worth more than 75 cents total, leaving Logan to face his father's wrath and presumably be cut off again (although Zoey, Lola, and Chase do intend to have the transaction undone and return Malcolm's money).

Meanwhile, Michael sees Mark watching the magician, The Great Doheny, on the lounge TV, and the two of them disagree about whether his magic tricks are real or not. Michael thinks Doheny’s tricks are real and even says that he could perform the same ones as him, escaping from tied ropes. He does this a couple times with increasing difficulty, until Quinn hires a professional knot tier to tie him into a chair to escape from, where he's eventually stumped and left sitting outside all night.

Trivia

  • Paul Butcher (Dustin Brooks) did not appear in this episode.
  • This was the last episode to air in 2007.
  • Logan has his first on-screen kiss in this episode.
  • At the beginning of this episode when Mark and Michael were watching TV, he mentions that he was watching the Great Doheny, who was the magician on Drake & Josh episode "The Great Doheny." You also hear him say "Do-three-ny!," which he said in the Drake & Josh episode.
  • This is the third episode in which the gang trick Logan with an elaborate scheme, the first two being Webcam and Haunted House.
  • Logan's briefly owned car is a silver Porsche Carrera GT.
  • The scene in which Quinn introduces her Bra Bag Quinnvention was heavily edited on Paramount+ in 2024.
  • Logan's United Express credit card is likely a parody of an American Express credit card.
  • Moral: Be mindful of how you spend your money, especially if it belongs to your parents or someone else.

Goofs

  • Since Logan’s credit card was cut in half instead of shredded, he still could have used the card to buy things by placing the two card pieces together and giving the merchant the sixteen digit card number and expiration date, along with the three-digit CVV code on the back of his card.
    • Unless the only way he can pay by card is to swipe the card in a pin pad machine.
    • The person or people who untied Michael from the bench at the end of the episode is unknown and never revealed.
  • In this episode, Logan says Juanita the lunch lady styles his hair. However, he styles Dustin's hair in Lola Likes Chase, meaning he clearly knows how to style hair himself.
    • But he might just be too lazy to style hair himself sometimes.
