Disc Golf is the eleventh episode in Season 1 and the eleventh overall episode in the Nickelodeon TV series Zoey 101. Going by streaming and/or production order, this is the 12th episode of Season 1. The episode aired on April 10, 2005.
Plot
Zoey and her friends are worn out from always running in gym class and Nicole keeps throwing up and is tired of it. To solve this, they decide to create their own disc golf team, since people who play, sports don't have to participate in gym. The coach wants them to stay in gym and finds a rule that the team must win a match before they can become an official team. Logan comes and shows off his disc golf skills, so they ask him to come on their team. Chase picks a school at random for them to go against, but the school is teenage criminals. They can only have five people participating, so they ask Nicole to sit out. The teens are beating them by 3 points. Zoey pretends to sprain her wrist so she can let Nicole play. Nicole's disc flies out of sight, and one of the teens offers to go get it. The other teens join him, and the police realize that the criminals are making a run for it. The PCA team wins since the other team left without finishing, and they become an official team.
Meanwhile, Michael is not happy with his weight due to his addiction to chips, so he asks Quinn to help him. Quinn makes a healthy kind of potato chips, but they make him very dizzy. Quinn then sprays some chemicals on the chips that cure the dizziness, but they also prevent Michael from talking clearly.
Trivia/Goofs
- Paul Butcher (Dustin Brooks) did not appear in this episode.
- The working title for this episode was "Frisbee Golf". [1]
- Thomas F. Wilson guest starred in this episode as Coach Phelps. Wilson is famous for his role of Biff Tannen in the Back to the Future films as well as many characters in SpongeBob SquarePants.
- Also, Quinn sprays the chips with plutonium, the main energy source for the DeLorean in Back to the Future.
- In another scene, one of the prisoners calls another prisoner a butthead, which is a name Biff would always call other people.
- He also played Coach Ben Fredricks on the comedy series Freaks and Geeks.
- Zoey and her team compete with a school called Ridgeway. In TeenNick's, iCarly, Sam, Freddie, and Carly attend Ridgeway High School.
- Quinn only appeared in this episode's sub-plot, but not the main plot.
- The closed captions have the lyrics to "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" by Jet when Zoey and her team are playing against the Ridgeway team. However, the actual song that played during the match is actually "Shallow Breathing" by Odds Against Tomorrow, whose songs have been played in the show, more notably, "It's True" (also played in Drake & Josh: Go Hollywood).
- However, "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" is the song played during the second half of the basketball game in Welcome to PCA.
- Nicole has vomit on her shirt right above her heart, meaning she would have to purposely turn her head in an odd way while throwing up.
- When the guard tells the Ridgeway team that they would be punished if they hurt the PCA team, Nicole is shown standing with the rest of the team, when she should be on the bench.
- At the beginning of the episode, Nicole comes running up a few minutes behind the others. However, she was nowhere to be seen before the camera shows her right behind everyone else.
- When Dana checks to make sure Michael is not dead, Nicole can be seen standing in the middle of the lane. In the next shot, Nicole is running in a different lane than the one she was standing in.
- After Nicole made her first successful throw, Chase remarked that she made it on her 48th shot. However, if you count how many disks there are around the pole Nicole was aiming at, there are only 34.
- However, it could be that the other 14 discs landed somewhere off screen.
- Also, if you look closely, the disc that made the pole is also gone.
- Coach Phelps did his math wrong. He said the gang had to do six laps everyday, and they had ten days to find a school that played disc golf and win. Six times ten actually equals sixty, but he stated that they would have to do seventy-four laps.
- When Coach Phelps says, "this is gym class, not a snacketeria," Logan is heard laughing. However, if you look at the shot with all the students standing together, his mouth is clearly not moving.
- In this episode, it was revealed that Nicole's vomit looks like oatmeal.
- Going by streaming order, this is the 12th episode of Season 1.
